About B.J.

I began life speaking a foreign language: Texan. Then my father fell in love with Montana and moved us to a cabin in the woods. I was five when I first got in trouble in kindergarten because the teacher thought I was making fun with my accent and my manners.

Along with barbecue, Tex-Mex and venison, I grew up eating food cooked over a campfire and naturally, along with the food, there were stories. My Uncle Jack used to say, 'Don’t bother to tell a story unless you’re going to make it good.' I loved the way his stories got my imagination going. It's no wonder that from as far back as I can remember, I never wanted to do anything but write books.

I learned to write tight and fast by writing articles for a newspaper and short stories for Woman’s World magazine, before I wrote my first book, Odd Man Out, for Harlequin Intrigue. I write what I love: mystery and suspense with a dash of romance. Now I write for both Harlequin Intrigue and HQN. I love writing both. I write what I know: Montana, where I live with my husband, Parker, and three Springer Spaniels, Spot, Jem and Ace.

I often drive out into the wilds to write, I find it inspires me. When I’m not writing, I love to boat, fish, waterski, swim, camp, quilt and play tennis.
