Obituary

Beverly Barton, 64, a New York Times bestselling author of romantic suspense and founder of the Heart of Dixie Chapter of the Romance Writers of America, sadly passed away died on Thursday, April 21, 2011. Friends and colleagues were both shocked and saddened by the loss of a woman who was a great writer and supporter of other writers.

Kimberly Lang, author and President of Heart of Dixie RWA Chapter spoke on behalf of the organisation saying their members were devastated at the loss of one of their founding members who was a much-loved mentor to so many writers. "Beverly Barton was a dynamic Southern lady with a big heart and kind spirit who touched every life she came in contact with." Beverly's editor remembers her as both a colleague and a good friend. "From the very first time that we talked on the phone...we just clicked. She always made me laugh and smile and there was nothing I loved more than brainstorming ideas with her. We're all going to miss her."

A native of Tuscumbia, Alabama; Beverly began writing at the age of seven. She attended college at the University of North Alabama, but left to marry her military husband. Together they raised a son and daughter, who are both married and gave her three grandchildren.   When she hit her forties, Beverly returned to writing as a career. She sold her first book to Harlequin's Silhouette Desire imprint called Yankee Lover in 1989. She wrote over eighty books over the course of her career.
