A book of two halves
The second of a duet this continues the story of Kaimotu island devastated by an earthquake.
The first half of this is the old Mrs Roberts we know and love as she powerfully portrays the action and evokes images of the tragedy among the tight knit island community. This may very well be the =best she has ever written.
Tom and Abigail are superb everyday selfless people but have had a joint past from which a secret emerges.
Half way through though the story hits a brick wall for me when it became totally dominated by Abigail's so Jack and what was a gripping read turned majorly disappointing.
As the ending wasn't explained fully I had to make a few assumptions.
Seven point five out of ten but worth the fourth rose for the first half.
Found this story a little more sensitive than the first in the duo and enjoyed it more. Abby Miller and Tom Kendrick seemed perfect for each other. The setting was dynamic and the action tense. Whilst secret babies are not my favourite, this seemed to be handled well in this book.
